Rush To Judgment
Posted on August 14, 2008
I am conservative. Some would say that I am very conservative. So, it often confuses people when I confess that I despise Rush Limbaugh. Heresy!
I do not think I have every listened to Rush Limbaugh’s program when he didn’t engage in half-truths, manipulation, and out-and-out lies. And, it shocks me when my conservative friends can’t see through his self-serving, self-centered, self-aggrandizing carnival sideshow. I have more admiration for someone who listens to Howard Stern than for those who sit on the edge of their seats waiting for the law to come down from Mount Rushmore.
Not once — never — can I remember having agreed with Keith Olbermann on anything, but I agree with almost every syllable he speaks regarding Rush Limbaugh in the following video. Instead of referring to himself as El Rushbo, maybe he needs to start referring to himself as El Limbo — how low can he go.

Accomplice To Murder
Posted on August 14, 2008
The news media has been reporting on the case of a mother whose daughter has “disappeared.” With her little girl gone, this young woman was free to go out partying and resume a life consistent with her own desires. Americans look on in horror.
I can’t help but wonder that Americans do not respond with the same horror to a presidential candidate who is an advocate of mothers being able to kill their children in order to live a life that is in line with their own desires. Isn’t that really what almost all abortion is about?
I often wonder if all those who support the murder of innocents through the political process aren’t guilty of being an accomplice to murder. And, amazingly, the Democrat candidate for president has a record of being the most outspoken advocate for abortion!
Consider the following sentences penned by Mike Huckabee:
We now know he [Barack Obama] voted against the state equivalent (in the committee which he chaired) of the federally passed “Born Alive Infants Protection Act.” To put that in perspective, the House and Senate of the U.S. Congress voted unanimously six years ago to pass it and not even NARAL campaigned against it. Yet Barack Obama did in the Illinois legislature.
If you are a pro-life conservative, this vote is chilling. We cannot risk an Obama presidency and we certainly cannot risk a Democrat President and Democrat Congress working together to pass an anti-life agenda.
I hope you are “chilled” enough to not simply standby for an Obama coronation.

Unmasking The Celebrity Candidate
Posted on August 13, 2008
The following is an article that I wrote a few days ago for my wife’s blog.
* * *
This morning I was listening to a radio talk show when I heard a caller tell the host about a book he “wanted to write” about Barack Obama. It seems to me that there is a growing desire on the part of both the “average man” and some in the media to unmask Barack Obama. I think it is akin to what happens of most celebrities when they become too big too quickly. Consider a few names — Michael Bolton, Barry Manilow, Kenny Gee, Enya, Britney Spears, etc. Their tremendous popularity was followed by a period when it became “cool” to hate them.
I think that Barack Obama’s celebrity will suffer a similar fate. The question is, will people realize he is an empty suit quickly enough to spare our country the disaster of an Obama presidency?
__________
Books Seeking To Unmask Obama
The Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality by Jerome Corsi
The Case Against Barack Obama: The Unlikely Rise and Unexamined Agenda of the Media’s Favorite Candidate by David Freddoso

Participating In Government
Posted on August 13, 2008
Admit it. You’ve said something akin to “Politicians never listen to us.” But, what have you done to let them know what you think and how you feel? Really, how can they listen if you don’t speak up?
John Cornyn has formed several advisory councils because he wants to know what you think? Will you serve on one of his “Issues Advisory Councils”?
Senator Cornyn has expressed a desire to begin a dialogue on the most important issues facing Texas and to exploring innovative, conservative solutions to our state’s problems. But a dialogue requires your participation.
If you are interested in putting your mouth where your money is, you can click here to sign up for any of the following:
| Tax Relief and the Economy Advisory Council | |
|---|---|
| How do we best ensure a robust economy? Should Republican tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 be made permanent, the death tax be repealed, Texas’ sales tax deduction be made permanent? | |
| Health Care Reform Advisory Council | |
| Should the government take over managing health care in the U.S., or should we institute free market principles to ensure every American has access to quality, affordable health care? | |
| National Defense and Homeland Security Advisory Council | |
| Should we immediately withdraw U.S. Troops from Iraq, or after they have achieved victory and the region is secure? Should our intelligence services be able to eavesdrop on suspected terrorist conversations? | |
| Education Advisory Council | |
| Should Washington bureaucrats control public education, or individual states? What should we do about the cost of college, dropout rates, student loans and other education related issues? | |
| Veterans Issues Advisory Council | |
| Our Veterans deserve the best health care access, services, and benefits. How can we ensure that this happens? Should we bring a VA hospital to South Texas? | |
| Water, Property Rights, and Conservation Issues Advisory Council | |
| Texas is the most beautiful state in land. How do we preserve and protect Texas wildlife habitat for outdoor enthusiast and hunters for years to come? How do we enhance landowners rights’? | |
| Texans of Faith Advisory Council | |
| Do you believe we must preserve traditional marriage? Do you believe that we must protect those who cannot defend themselves and we should build a culture that respects and protects every human life, from conception to natural death? |

A Call To Action
Posted on August 13, 2008
I simply do not understand those who are choosing to “sit out this election.” Mike Huckabee recently wrote a brief note which should be a “call to action” for all those who really care about their children, their neighbors, and their country.
Someone asked me recently to describe Barack Obama’s Agenda. The question caught me off guard, because if you think about it, he’s been running as the “change candidate” and yet no one I know understands what change he is aiming for. His Agenda remains shrouded in mystery. For instance, gasoline prices are at historic highs and yet he hasn’t articulated a plan of action to help American families.
What we do know about Barack Obama’s agenda, is that he favors higher taxes, supports abortion, believes the federal government should be bigger and has embraced a foreign policy that would make Jane Fonda proud. We also know he was rated by National Journal as the most liberal Senator because of his voting record. According to their ranking, even Bernie Sanders, Vermont’s Socialist Senator, isn’t as liberal as Barack Obama. No kidding.
So if the thought of President Obama working with a Democrat Senate and House makes you nervous, I urge you to take action now to keep this from becoming a reality in November.

John Cornyn on Federal Judges
Posted on August 12, 2008
Federal Judges Appointed For Life
by Senator John Cornyn
Presidents come and go, but federal judges are appointed for life. There is no more pressing concern about a future Obama presidency than his potential influence on the federal bench, particularly through his appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court. The outlook is not reassuring.
With the addition of Chief Justice Roberts and Associate Justice Alito, President Bush has restored some balance to the high court. The two new justices are jurists of impeccable character and record. Sen. Obama voted against both. The Washington Post reported that Sen. Obama was advised to oppose Roberts by his staff, who feared that a “yes” vote would harm Obama among left-wing activists and interfere with his presidential primary prospects.
If history is any guide, the next President may have two or more appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court. Sen. Obama, speaking to a Planned Parenthood conference last year, faulted the current judicial confirmation procedure, which relies heavily on legal experience and reputation among peers. Sen. Obama had a different outlook on the qualities needed on the federal bench: ” We need somebody who’s got the heart, the empathy, to recognize what it’s like to be a young teenage mom. The empathy to understand what it’s like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old. And that’s the criteria by which I’m going to be selecting my judges.”
Empathy should not be the prime qualification for the bench. Ability to apply the law fairly, without favor or prejudice, should guide this process. Sen. McCain has been responsible and constructive in judicial confirmations, reaching across party lines as a member of the Gang of 14 to break a partisan logjam over President Bush’s judicial nominations. His success, quite frankly, surprised me. He has generally supported nominees of good character, men and women who have shown the ability to follow the law as written, and to avoid substituting their own views for that law.
The stakes are high in this election. Sen. McCain has numerous attributes, including a strong record on cutting wasteful government spending. Some conservatives are irked because he’s also shown an independent streak on events of the moment. But federal judges appointed in the next Presidential term will be serving, and rendering decisions, for decades. I would feel very comfortable if a President McCain were making those nominations.

MikeHuckabee.com

I have never understood the infatuation and excitement that some have with Barack Obama. What is there really to be excited about? I think that the recent 60 second Paris Hilton commercial showed just how lame that the national political scene is right now. She sounded like a genius compared to most of our candidates. Sound ideas presented in a reasonable fashion… wouldn’t that be nice.
That is why I really miss having Mike Huckabee in the race. He talked about new ways of governing, new ways to promote the economic well-being of Americans, defending what is best about America and changing where necessary to become more prosperous, more secure, and more responsible. And HE COMMUNICATED content rather than simply saying “I Am the hopes and dreams of America.”
I MISS MIKE…
The good news is that MikeHuckabee.com is back online. (For awhile that domain address auto-forwarded to HuckPac.) Swing by and check it out.
